Hayley is built around a simple principle: what you say stays with you. This policy explains exactly what we collect, what we don't, and why.
When you record a voice entry on iOS, your audio is transcribed in real time on your device using Apple's Speech Recognition framework (SFSpeechRecognizer). Your voice recordings are never stored, transmitted, or sent to any server. Audio exists only in memory during the recording session and is discarded immediately after.
When you record a voice entry on Android, your audio is transcribed entirely on your device using an offline, on-device speech recognition engine. Your audio is never transmitted off your phone — recording and transcription both happen locally, with nothing sent to us, to Google, or to any other third party. Audio exists only in memory during the recording session and is discarded immediately after.
After transcription, the text of your entry is sent via an encrypted HTTPS connection to Anthropic's API to generate your insight, pattern, and question cards. This text is processed in real time and is not stored by Hayley beyond the duration of the API call. Anthropic's own data handling and privacy policies apply to this transmission. You can review them at anthropic.com/privacy.
Your journal entries, insights, and patterns are stored locally on your device — using Apple's SwiftData framework on iOS, and a local Room database on Android. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us. If you delete the app, all data is permanently deleted.
We do not collect usage analytics, crash reports, behavioural data, or any form of telemetry. We have no visibility into how you use the app.
On iOS, subscription management, billing, and payment processing are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. On Android, these are handled entirely by Google through Google Play Billing. We do not collect, store, or have access to any payment information on either platform.
Hayley uses the following third-party services:
Anthropic Claude API — used to generate insights from your transcribed entries. Text is sent over encrypted connections and not retained. anthropic.com/privacy
Apple Speech Recognition — used for on-device voice transcription on iOS. Runs entirely on your device; governed by Apple's privacy policy. apple.com/privacy
On-device speech recognition (Android) — used for on-device voice transcription on Android. Runs entirely on your device using a local, offline model; no audio or transcript is transmitted to us or to any external server as part of this process.
Hayley is not directed at children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
